ACADEMIC FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
The Academic Fellowship Program (AFP) is designed to contribute to higher education reforms and to help build academic networks by focusing on both the partner university departments and the individual scholars. To achieve these goals, AFP builds partnerships with key departments at state higher education institutions and provides systematic assistance to those departments through a number of initiatives. For 2010/11 academic year three departments from Yerevan State University are selected as program cooperation partners - the European and International Law, Psychology and Sociology departments. Nine Returning Scholars are involved as program local fellows, who teach at mentioned partner departments and are actively involved in various departmental development activities. Three professors from western universities, one to each partner department, are assigned within the International Scholars program to contribute to departmental development with academic advisory, networking, course/curricula improvement and development support. In addition to individual fellowships for local (returning) and International Scholars a number of opportunities are provided within the program, some of which are available not only for fellows but also for partner departments’ non-fellow faculty members. These include the Professional Development Fund, Mobility Fund, Departmental Development Fund as well as the cross-regional Discipline Group Meetings being held biannually for AFP fellows from all involved academic disciplines and from all AFP operating regions.
