ACADEMIC FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The Academic Fellowship Program (AFP) is designed to contribute to higher education reforms and to help build academic networks by focusing on both the partner university departments and the individual scholars. To achieve these goals, AFP builds partnerships with key departments at state higher education institutions and provides systematic assistance to those departments through a number of initiatives. In 2008/09 ac. year AFP cooperated with two partner departments at Yerevan State University -Department of European and International Law and Applied Psychology. AFP supported seven young local scholars teaching at selected partner departments. They contributed to departments’ curricula development by bringing innovative courses. These courses at Law department include ‘The Practice of the European Court of Human Rights’ and ‘Refugee Law’; at Psychology department - ‘Psychology of Learning’, ‘Human Resources Management’ and ‘Focus Group in Social Sciences’. The contents of several major courses delivered by fellows, including International Protection of Human Rights; International Humanitarian Law, Gender and Psychology, Methodology of Teaching Psychology were revised and updated considering partner departments International Scholars comments/suggestions.  During 2008/09 ac. year AFP fellows participated in annual discipline based meetings as well as in academic webfolio project activities (http://www.afpwebfolio.org). The later is a tool for scholars’ interaction and experience exchange in teaching/syllabi related issues aimed at improving of AFP fellows’ professional development as university teachers.
